The Smelser Vallion Visiting Artist will be expected to undertake a project, in any medium, that is in some way influenced by and/or reflects the landscape and/or culture of the Southwest. The recipient will interact with students enrolled in Oklahoma State University's Taos class. The recipient also will be expected to deliver a public talk and/or demonstration while in Taos and to visit Oklahoma State University to share his/her work and conduct a workshop. The honorarium is $5,000.
The Center will provide the artist with housing in Taos for two weeks and cover the expenses associated with the recipient’s Stillwater stay. Named after the internationally acclaimed graphic artist, the Doel Reed Center offers programs characterized by multidisciplinary approaches to teaching, research, and outreach focusing on the Southwest.
