The Doel Reed Center for the Arts in Taos, NM invites applications for the July 2018 Jim and Linda Burke Visiting Scholar or Writer in modern or contemporary literature, writing, and/or the arts of New Mexico or the Southwest.
The visiting writer or scholar will interact with students enrolled in “Hollywood Southwest,” a joint undergraduate/graduate Screen Studies seminar in Taos (July 9-20). This course will study the Western genre, the way that New Mexico became an emblematic site for the frontier imaginary, and consider the “placelessness” of contemporary media production.
The scholar or writer also will be expected to deliver a public talk or give a public reading while in Taos and will be invited to do the same at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater in Spring 2019. The honorarium is $5,000. In addition, the Center will cover the expenses associated with the recipient’s Stillwater stay.
The deadline is Friday, February 9, 2018.
To apply: send a letter of application and a curriculum vitae to Carol Moder, Director, Doel Reed Center for the Arts at email@example.com.
