The Doel Reed Center for the Arts in Taos, NM invites applications for the position of Smelser Vallion Visiting Artist for a minimum of two weeks during July 2018.
The visiting artist will be expected to undertake a project, in any medium, that is influenced by and/or reflects the landscape and/or culture of the Southwest. The recipient will interact with students enrolled in Oklahoma State University's Taos class “Converging Cultures: Understanding Art and Devotion in Spanish New Mexico” (July 9-20). This course is an introduction to the art and culture of Spanish New Mexico.
The recipient also will be expected to deliver a public talk and/or demonstration while in Taos and to visit Oklahoma State University to share his/her work, give an artist’s talk, and conduct a community workshop. The honorarium is $5,000.The Center will provide the artist with housing and studio space in Taos for two to three weeks and cover the expenses associated with the recipient’s Stillwater stay.
The deadline is Friday, February 9, 2018.
